A Vienna (Du Paquier) gold-mounted Royal portrait octagonal snuff-box Circa 1738-40, the mounts contemporary
The sides painted with swags of fruit alternating with red, puce and purple scrolls and strapwork below a purple and red line border, the front facet with fruit and a moulded gilt-scroll thumbpiece, the underside and cover each with large bouquets of fruit and flowers within octagonal purple and red line borders, the interior of the cover finely stippled with a portrait of Empress Maria-Theresa of Austria in ermine robes, puce jewelled dress, jewelled tiara and earrings (top left corner of interior of cover with a minute flake [?] to enamels, box with small firing crack from rim, wear to gilt line on interior of rim, areas of wear to base and top of cover), the mounts finely chased with up-turned acanthus leaves, the thumbpiece with a heart flanked by gadroons
