A pair of Meissen figures emblematic of Winter and Summer
Circa 1755, blue crossed swords marks at back of bases
Winter modelled as a withered bearded old man wrapping himself in a fur-lined gilt and puce flowered mauve cloak, standing barefoot next to a tree-stump with icicles and an elaborate pedestal with a small log-fire, a wine-glass and a bottle, a brazier at his feet, Summer scantily clad in a pale green-lined flowered mauve robe, her hair crowned with flowers, holding a large sheaf of corn with a sickle and standing barefoot by an elaborate shell-moulded pedestal issuing foliage, on high mound scroll-moulded bases enriched with gilding, Summer's base with flowers, foliage, vegetables and ribbon-tied foliage (Winter with one log lacking, minute fritting to tree, Summer's head and left forearm restuck, possibly broken through waist and restuck, crack through right knee and robe, chipping to flowers, foliage, corn, right fingers and left ankle, slight restoration to foliage)
