1965 AUSTIN MINI COOPER 'S' MKI

Chassis No. G-A2S7-552331
Engine No. 9F-S-Y-32471

Engine: Four cylinder, transversely mounted, 1,275cc, 76bhp at 5800rpm; Gearbox: Four speed manual; Suspension: independent front and rear; Brakes: Hydraulic, front disc, rear drum. Right Hand Drive.
From the moment the Mini arrived in 1959, it was obvious that Alec Issigonis' brilliant concept of putting an independently sprung wheel at each corner of the car and fitting a transverse engine in unit with the gearbox was going to be an ideal recipe for superlative handling. Coupled with front wheel drive, the little car was an immediate success. All that was needed was more power, which was forthcoming in 1961 when the name of racing car manufacturer John Cooper became associated with the car. Various engine sizes were offered in Mini Coopers over the years and the 1275 'S' was always a desirable option. With twin carburetors, the BMC A-series engine now produced 76 brake horse power hence disc brakes were now fitted to the front along with a 120mph speedometer.
Having resided with the same caring owners from new, this Cooper 'S' is a real find. In its early life it was used for commuting then subsequently as a local run-around, prime task being 'the school run'. By the late 1980s it was rather tired and thus a full restoration was commissioned, upon completion in 1990 over £6,000 had been invested and FLO 979C was ready to return home once again.
Since then less than 3,000 miles have been covered and condition remains very presentable indeed. Though not driven on public roads, upon inspection by a Christie's specialist the car ran sweetly and retained good oil pressure. Offered with the car is a comprehensive history file which includes the original buff logbook, old MOT's and service records. A rare opportunity not to be missed.
