Lot Essay

Probably a page from an album. A sketchbook of the same size, dating to the latter part of Robert's period in Italy, is in the Pierpont Morgan Library, New York (V. Carlson, Hubert Robert, Drawings & Watercolors, exhib. cat., National Gallery of Art, Washington, 1978, no. 15). A drawing of similar technique was sold in these Rooms, 25 March 1969, lot 196.
