Another watercolour over engraved outlines of this composition is in the British Museum, London (Kenwood, The Iveagh Bequest, Images of the Grand Tour, Louis Ducros, 1748-1810, 1985, no. 66). The composition is from a series of seven views of Rome's most celebrated gardens. The set was etched by Ducros and Volpato and published in 1782-4. A drawing of the same compostion is at Lausanne (Kenwood, no. 12).
The villa was owned by Cardinal Montalto, later Pope Sixtus V and later owned by the Negroni family. When it was sold in 1784 the garden was destroyed and the contents of the house dispersed.
