Lot Essay

Close in handling to Seiter's drawing of Diana and Endymion in the Louvre (E. Starcky in Acquisitions 1984-9, exhib. cat., Paris, Musée du Louvre, 1999, no. 95). The Louvre drawing, of the same size and technique as the present one, is related to the ceiling decoration of the Queen's bedroom in the Palazzo Reale in Turin painted in 1694.
A picture of Diana and Endymion by Seiter painted circa 1687-8 is in Chiswick House, London (M. Kunze, Daniele Seiter, Berlin, 2000, no. G10).
