In the dramatic 1902 season, Yorkshire won the county championship and the Australians toured triumphantly. Haigh and Rhodes were the leading bowlers in the country with 158 for less than 13 runs and 213 for just over 13 runs respectively. Hirst's 83 wickets for 20 was a more modest bag, but he also scored 1,413 runs at an average of 32, and for the first time made an indelible impression as a Test cricketer.
