Two-page letter with two integral blanks, on paper headed London County Cricket Club, Crystal Palace "St. Andrew's," Lawrie Park Road, Sydenham, S.E., dated Dec. 8 1908, from Grace to "My Dear Dick" [Bell], stating he was at Lord's earlier in the day and "had a chat with Lacey, you are quite in his good books and I told him you were just the fellow, he wanted to know if you could bat on matting wickets and I said you would be unplayable etc. ... I know that you would make them break a lot and do it fast." He also adds "I am writing Lord Hawke and shall mention your name to him," then discusses the possibility of a game of golf at Banstead and beagling on Saturday, signed "W.G. Grace." AN UNUSUALLY DETAILED LETTER, showing Grace bringing his influence to bear on the M.C.C. secretary.

Post card from Grace to W.H. Smith, franked Sydenham M[a]y 1 [18]99, stating "Shall play v. Australians most likely , but not all the week," signed "W.G. Grace" (torn through middle with old adhesive tape repair, further tear into first line of text). (2)
