Makepeace scored a century in England's first innings and a half century in the second, Douglas scored half centuries in both, Rhodes and Fender bowled well and contributed half centuries to England's second innings score of 315. Nevertheless, Australia won by 8 wickets, Mailey taking 4 for 115 and 9 for 121 in the two England innings.
