An attractive 19th-Century lacquered-brass Culpeper-type microscope,
unsigned, but with a trade label for F.T. HUDSON Optician, GREENWICH in the base of the pyramid-shaped mahogany case -- 33cm. (13in.) high

Focusing is achieved through sliding the draw tube up and down within the main barrel. This is raised on three scroll supports from the circular stage, which in turn is raised on three scroll legs from the circular brass base with concave substage mirror. The case has a brass carrying handle and key and a drawer with an ivory pull. The drawer is lined with patterened paper and has another label for Hudson. Accessories include: two objectives, numbered 4 and 2; a small live box; three four-cell ivory sliders; eight other various sliders; stage forceps; and a pair of ivory-tipped brass tweezers.
