A large 19th-Century lacquered-brass compound binocular microscope,

The binocular body-tube has rack and pinion adjustment to the eyepieces and focusing, and a Wenham prism. It is held on a curved grey-enamelled limb, at the other end of which is the mechanical stage with a rack and pinion adjusted condensor with two filters, and the plano-concave mirror. The limb tilts, with a screw clamp, between two uprights from the partially raised U-shaped foot. The case has some green felt lining and two brass hooks and eyes and contains: four eyepieces; Powell & Lealand objectives in cannisters marked 1, 2, 3 and 1/S; a Powell & Lealand substage attachment with objective condensor and aperture disc; four other substage attachments; three lieberkuhn, one stage-mounted; double nose-piece; stage and table bull's-eye condensors; live box; frog plate; tweezers and other items.
