"I've painted since I was little. My mother was a painter, so around the house there were paints and pictures, art books and reproductions, not a lot but enough so that visual language was natural for me. To paint with oils and brushes was as normal for me as using crayons for most kids... I wanted to be everything, a writer, a man in a submarine... In fact, I still want to be these things, but inexorably painting took over without my really deciding it." (M. Barceló, Avui, 'Interview with Esther Vera', Barcelona 1996.)
