AN UNUSUAL SILVER-GILT MOUNTED ENGLISH HUNTING KNIFE
Late 17th Century
With single-edged sharply-pointed curved blade back-edged towards the point, struck on each face with a maker's mark, and with a gilt panel engraved with a mask and foliated strapwork at the base, the hilt with short straight quillons with recurved lobe-shaped tips each cast with male heads, pistol-grip of agate from an Indian khanjar, with engraved silver leaves at the base and a button formed as a cartouche with a Classical helmeted head in relief, in original wooden leather-covered scabbard (damaged) with silver-gilt locket and chape decorated with heads en suite with the hilt and each struck with an illegible silversmith's mark
