A FRENCH SILVER-MOUNTED HANGER
Paris silver discharge mark for 1768-74
The earlier broad, straight double-edged blade with three central fullers on each face, the middle one at the forte only and struck with numerous small 'X's, the hilt with short gadrooned quillons (loose) with lobe-shaped tips, the green-stained ivory handle (slight damage) shaped like that of a table-knife, with a silver ferrule at the base, and small silver tang-button on a shaped plate, the original shagreen-covered wooden scabbard (split down one side) with horizontally-fluted silver locket and chape, the former with both a frog-button and a suspension-ring, and the latter with a separate moulded iron tip, the Paris discharge mark struck on all the main silver parts
