AN OFFICER'S BACKSWORD, AND AN INDIAN TULWAR
The first third quarter of the 18th Century, the second 19th Century
The first with straight fullered blade with etched decoration on each side of the forte, iron guard of slender rounded bars (one broken) incorporating ovals, with flattened loops, and broad scrolled wrist-guard, bun-shaped pommel, and wooden grip covered with shagreen spirally bound with twisted silver wire and with leather tassel at the top (rust-patinated throughout); the second with traces of gold-damascened decoration on the hilt, in leather-covered scabbard (defective)
