AN 18-BORE SILVER-MOUNTED TURKISH MIQUELET-LOCK RIFLE
Circa 1800
With multi-staged twist barrel cut with eight grooves, retained by seven engraved silver bands, and damascened at intervals with gold arabesques mostly between gilt bands, the shaped bulbous muzzle inlaid with gold panels (some missing), the top of the fluted breech section with a gold-inlaid inscription, gilt single-aperture standing back-sight, characteristic lock with gold-encrusted decoration (some losses, jaw-screw finial missing), figured Circassian walnut three-quarter stock inlaid with silver panels pierced and engraved with strapwork and foliage, swelling faceted butt with an applied engraved silver panel behind the barrel tang and an engraved silver band forward of the butt-plate engraved with calligraphy, gold-damascened button trigger, engraved silver fore-end cap, and associated iron ramrod (some wear, and some losses from the inlay and the damascened decoration, forward sling mount missing)
