A Victorian ebonised month-going table timepiece with calendar
Dent, London. Circa 1860
The case with wavy-arched top and on moulded base raised on bun feet, with silvered sight ring to a silvered and finely engraved dial, the Roman chapter ring densely engraved with foliate scrolls and the dial below with flowers within a hatched borders, with subsidiary rings for date and day of week, each centred by an engraved grotesque half-mask and flowers, with inscription between DENT CHRONOMETER-MAKR TO THE QUEEN 33. COCKSPUR STR.T LONDON, with blued steel beetle hands, the substantial movement with shouldered plates and four pillars secured to the rear with brass screws, chain fusee with giant barrel and anchor escapement, with pendulum holdfast and repeat signature to the back plate
