A French gilt-brass and porcelain-mounted striking and repeating giant carriage clock
No.144, retailed by Elkington & Co., Paris. Circa 1880
The gorge case mounted with royal blue porcelain side panels, each painted with scenes of rustic houses amidst woodland within gilt and white enamel jewelled borders, the conforming dial painted with a young couple fishing, with elaborate gilt-painted spandrels in the form of scrolls and fruiting baskets to a chapter ring with individual gilt-bordered Roman cartouche numerals, with turquoise jewel divisions between them and white enamel jewel ring to the centre, with retail signature ELKINGTON & CO. PARIS and blued steel spade hands, the twin barrel movement with giant silvered platform to lever escapement with bimetallic balance, strike/repeat on gong to the back plate numbered 144
