A George III mahogany and brass-mounted striking table clock with alarm
Edward Wicksteed, London. Circa 1775
The case with elongated urn finials flanking a bell top with openwork foliate mounts, handle now lacking, with arched glazed panels to the sides and florally cast long mounts to the front angles, with further floral mount to a base raised on bracket feet, the brass dial with open gilt-brass spandrels to an applied silvered Roman and Arabic chapter disc, signed in the centre Edw. Wicksteed LONDON, with alarm-setting disc to the centre and date aperture below, later(?) blued steel hands, the arch above with silvered subsidiary strike/silent disc, the five pillar movement with twin wire fusees and now converted to anchor escapement, trip repeat, the back plate mounted with pull-wind alarm and with engraved borders and repeat signature within a scrolling cartouche, with leafy engraving to the movement securing brackets,
