Lot Essay

Commissioners for the Paris Exhibition included Charles Moore from Sydney and the architect James Barnet. Inspired by the new landscape designs of Napoleon III's rebuilding of Paris which provided a brilliant garden setting for the Exhibition on the Champ de Mars they returned to New South Wales to design the Garden Palace for the Sydney International Exhibition of 1879.
