Lot Essay

A similar chair was sold as part of the Mary Bellis Collection Christie's 21 May 1987 lot 123.
The chairs have very distinctive features including scroll carving to the seat-rail, fluted uprights and floral marquetry but to date little seems to be known of their origins.
