Lot Essay

Children's chairs of this design were commonly made in Wales in the 18th and 19th centuries. This example has a hand grip (now broken) fretted into the top of the back and the child has hand grips each side to hold when rocking. Other examples decorated with hearts and Celtic motifs are known.
