COMPARATIVE LITERATURE
Edward H. Pinto, Treen and Other Wooden Bygones, Bell and Hyman, London 1969. A comparative figure illustrated fig.436., discussed page 412.

The figure portrays a native of Guinea. The squat figure pre-dates the more refined and better proportioned blackamoor figures of the 18th century, and as such is a rare survival.
