Lot Essay

The recto of this sheet was page XII verso from the sketchbook CP I.

This sketch depicts the pool of Cézanne's family home near Aix-en-Provence, the Jas de Bouffan. It is a study for the painting R 566. For the same motif, see C 763, 891 and 1145.

On the verso there is very small sketch of a hatted man, mentioned in Chappuis but not illustrated (op. cit., 1973).
