Lot Essay

This work will be included in the forthcoming Vuillard catalogue raisonné being prepared by Antoine Salomon and Guy Cogeval, under the sponsorship of the Wildenstein Institute.

On the right, sitting by the window, convalescing, is Alexandre Vuillard, the artist's elder brother. Attending him is their widowed mother, with whom Vuillard lived until her death, in 1928.
