JIM MORRISON ORIGINAL PRINT COPY OF "THE LORDS/NOTES ON VISION"

A navy blue portfolio with embossed gilt lettering on the cover reading The Lords/Notes on Vision/James Douglas Morrison filled with 82 loose-leaf pages of poetry. Self-published by Morrison in the spring of 1969 with only 100 copies printed by Western Lithographers (Los Angeles), the individual pages are not numbered, giving the reader free reign to read the vignettes in any order. Though all Morrison's obessions are addressed in this work, the topic of 'film' is a recurring theme. A few short lines read:
-The appeal of cinema lies in the fear of death
-Film confers a kind of spurious eternity
-Cinema, heir of alchemy, last of an erotic science.
Others are even more concise:
-Look where we worship
-All games contain the idea of death
Morrison was proud of his published poetry (See Lots 184-185) and always used his proper name on them; printed on the bottom of every page is C James Douglas Morrison 1969 All Rights Reserved. Also included is a printed poem titled 'Ode to LA while thinking of Brian Jones, Deceased' that Morrison handed out two nights in a row to those who attended his live performance at The Aquarius Theatre in Hollywood, late in the summer of 1969. Composed shortly after the Rolling Stone drowned in a swimming pool, one sad line reads: I hope you went out/Smiling/Like a child/Into the cool remnant/of a dream.

Both these pieces were given directly to the current owner in 1969 by her sister, Kathy Lisciando, who was secretary to The Doors.
