We are very grateful to Terence Mullaly for proposing an attribution to Domenico Brusasorci (c. 1515-1567), after inspection of the original; Mr Mullaly compares this picture stylistically with the latter's Self Portrait in the Castelvecchio, Verona.
Please note that technical examination of the painting suggests that the canvas addition to the left side of the painting either formed part of the original structure or is a nearly contemporaneous addition, whereas that on the upper edge is a later addition. A copy of the examination report is available on request.
