Two 18th century fans from the same workshop one depicting Hercules and the Battle of the Amazones, the other with a godess within clouds of smoke being attacked by soldiers and a king with a dagger trying to prevent a hero from drinking from a chalice, both painted on paper and mounted à l'Anglaise, flowering branches in pink, blue and yellow cover the entire reverse of both fans, the sticks of ivory, the guardsticks clouté with steel, inlaid with a pierced mother of pearl panels - 10½in. (26.5cm) each, probably Italian, circa 1720, leaves slightly creased
