A Porcelain Dish
Late Edo period (19th century),
the rectangular dish with scallop rim designed in underglaze cobalt with tight foliate scroll in the interior and panels of geometric diaper patterns in the interior sides, the underside with stylized bats and clouds and a stiff, standing leaf band around the foot; bottom unglazed
8 1/8 x 11 3/8in. (20.6 x 28.9cm.)
With wood box inscribed Hirazara hitotsu (Flat dish) and on the underside Tenpo juichi kanoene banshun nichi zorai gohin no uchi Shinooka Takeshi ryosh (Presented on a day in late Spring 1840 to Shinaoka Takeshi)
