The General Garretson was launched on December 29, 1906. She had a net tonnage of 5,371 and principal dimensions of LOA: 520ft, Beam: 54ft, Draft: 26.2ft. She was renamed the E.J. Kulas in 1936 and subsequently named Powhattan in 1936, Charles A. Paul in 1937, and B.F. Junes in 1956. It was not unusual for these Great Lakes ore carriers to have numerous names over the course of their service.
