A Very Fine Model Of The Solent One Design Moby Dick

A very fine exhibition standard scale model of this popular British one design racing class. The hull of the model is built up from the solid and painted with white topsides, a green bottom and a gold cove stripe. The deck of the model is painted a buff color and is fitted with numerous details which include: stem fitting, cleats, fairleads, king post, forward hatch, skylight, cockpit, coaming, toe rail, tiller, double main traveler, rudder, etc. The model is rigged as a sloop and the mast is fitted with spreaders, hounds, mast cap and other details. The model has a boom which is held up by a topping lift and is fitted with a gooseneck and mainsheet blocks. The model is displayed on a mahogany stand on a fitted pair of keel cradles.

Lot Essay

The Solent One Design is a Western Solent class that was developed in the early 20th century and is principally based out of Lymington and Cowes. Sloop rigged, with running back stays and marconi rig, these yachts were a popular racing class in the UK.
