Lot Essay

William Anderson was one of the best known British marine artists; he exhibited forty-five works at the Royal Academy. His early training as a shipwright is refelected in the accuracy of his drawing. What makes his watercolor so attractive is his ability to include meticulous detail without distracting from the overall charm of composition. This scene is probably the Thames a favorite subject for Anderson.
