Lot Essay

The poetess Sappho lived during the so-called Pre-Classical period in the early 6th century B.C., mostly in Mytilene, the capital of the Aeolic island Lesbos in the North-East Aegean. She is the best known poetess of ancient Greece and was praised in her time, as she is today, for the beauty and tenderness of her love lyrics.
