PROPERTY OF A DISTINGUISHED PRIVATE COLLECTOR
The following group of furniture and objects (lots 1-86) was assembled under the guidance of the designers Bruce Gregga, Alex Jordan and Dan Smieszny of Gregga Jordan Smieszny Inc. In collaboration with the owners, this accomplished team transformed a lake-front Chicago apartment, evolving from an architectural framework that recalled the work of Robert Adam. Their imaginative interpretation of a classical interior imparted a sense of drama - as in the case of the charcoal grey-painted library - and quiet elegance. The Georgian and Regency furniture in the collection was punctuated by 18th century French and Italian examples, together with accents of Art Deco design, and was further brought to life with Chinese export porcelain, Chinese pottery as well as colorful prints, paintings and drawings. The apartment was featured in Architectural Digest in February 1995.
Christie's is pleased to offer further examples from this collection during this sale season. A George I green japanned bureau-cabinet and a remarkable marble urn by sculptor John Flaxman highlight Christie's October 17 sale of Important English furniture. A Louis XIV boulle marquetry bureau-plat features in the Important European Furniture sale on October 23 and a collection of Chinese export porcelain will be offered in the January 21, 2004 sale of Chinese export porcelain.
