Raised on four bold leaf feet, the body with vine loop handles and rim, domed cover with similarly decorated handle, engraved wtih a presentation inscription 'presented to John Birt Davies, M.D. (Edin.) of the royal college of Physicians, Professor of Forensic Medicine in the Royal School of Medicine and Surgery, and Senior Physician to the General Dispensary Birmingham to the General dispensary Birmingham on the 1st day of August MDCCCXXXVL ....... a lasting Memorial .... of his active benevolence and charitable exertions .. to the Birmingham Dispensary and to the late Birmingham Fever Hospital .... and like wise as a testimony of Regent of the recent disappointment of his just claim to the office of Physician to the General Hospital
