Lot Essay

The library-table top of golden-figured portor marble is displayed on an oak frame, whose altar-scrolled trestles are patera-enriched in the George IV 'antique' manner illustrated in Henry Whitaker's Designs of Cabinet and Upholstery Furniture in the Most Modern Style, 1826. It bears the 'GILLOW' stamp introduced in the 1830s.
