A GEORGE V UPHOLSTERED CENTRE SEAT
By Cowtan & Sons, first half 20th century, the seat cover probably Italian, late 17th century
The rectangular seat covered with two deep panels of crimson velvet, appliqué and embroidered with an elaborate scrolling design and with raised silver metal-thread details, the sides with a narrow border of similar, smaller-scale design, appliqué at intervals with a shell motif, the larger panels rebacked, on lignum vitae castors, the castor plates stamped 'COPE'S PATENT', stamped twice 'COWTAN & SONS 309 OXFORD ST, LONDON'
