Each carved with a winged cherub's head, four looking to dexter, two to sinister, surmounted by an Ionic volute and carved flowerheads, probably originally fitted in panelling

拍品專文

The pilaster capitals comprise flowered and voluted trusses borne on cherubim heads issuing from clouds, and reflect the 17th century Roman fashion, such as the architect Sir Christopher Wren and sculptor Grinling Gibbons introduced at St. Paul's Cathedral in the 1690s.
