A PAIR OF FINE HUANGHUALI SOUTHERN OFFICIAL'S HAT ARMCHAIRS, NANGUANMAOYI
17th/18th century
Each with a straight round toprail continuing to straight corner posts, extending to the back legs below the rectangular frame with a hard mat seat, the plain backsplat, gently curved slightly serpentine armrests continuing to the front corner posts and supported on straight slim stiles, the legs joined by continuous beaded aprons and stepped stretchers, with a shaped footrest and narrow apron with short stretchers

This form is alternatively called a 'continuous yoke-back armchair' for the visually pleasing wayan daiguo 'pipe-joints' that fluidly join the crestrail and armrests.
