A Red Sandstone Figure of Shiva and Parvati
India, Rajasthan, probably from Abeneri, 9th/10th Century
Finely carved in deep relief and openwork with Shiva seated atop Nandi in tender embrace of Parvati, her right arm encircling Shiva's neck and one of his left hands cupping one of her breasts, Shiva holding attributes of a trident, snake and lotus of dalliance, his consort holding the mirror as symbol of beauty, surrounded by their sons Ganesha and Kartikkeya, flanked by Brahma and Vishnu above and topped by the Seven Mother Goddesses
