A Rare Bronze Figure of Tara
Sri Lanka, circa 11th Century
Standing in tribhanga on a flat round base, her right hand extended palm upward holding a fruit and her left hand in kataka mudra, wearing necklaces, an armlet and an elaborately incised dhoti tied with a sash at the waist, her face with a calm expression with downward slanted eyes flanked by pierced pendulous lobes, her hair pulled back and drawn into a bun at the back, with a silvery green patina overall

No other example of this type appears to be recorded. While the general stance and outline with broad hips is characteristic, it displays unusual details in facial features such as the downward slanted eyes; compare U. von Schroeder, Buddhist Sculptures of Sri Lanka, 1990, cat. nos. 73C and 73F.
