PRABHAKAR BARWE (1936 - 1996)
According to Barwe, concrete ideas may result in abstract forms in his paintings, or alternatively abstract mental concepts may emerge in his work as a concrete form. His effort was to "examine how and where the concrete and abstract meet in the course of such journeys." (Prabhakar Barwe, Prabhakar Barwe, Mumbai, Gallery Chemould, 1992.) Ranjit Hoskote notes: "He defined a parallel universe through the gleeful transgression of customary logic, assembled a symbolic reality where the data of ordinary life was transmitted as strange and sublime missives." (Ranjit Hoskote, 'The Secret Heart of the Clock', Art India, Mumbai, April - June 1996, p. 43.)
