Purdah is the Muslim or Hindu practice of keeping women covered from men outside their own family; literally translated the word means 'screen' or 'veil'. Bullock-drawn purdah cars were used to convey female passengers. This sketch, annotated with colour notes, may well have been intended as reference for more finished works upon the Daniells' return to England.
