The shaped toprail centred by scrolling foliage, with scrolled sides terminating in flowerheads, the padded squab, pair of bolsters and three cushions covered in foliate material, with a reeded apron, on downswept legs, the seat originally caned

This reed-enriched sofa relates to a 'Grecian Sofa' pattern in Thomas Sheraton's, Cabinet Dictionaryi 1803 (pl. 73); while the legs' antiquarian ornament of whorled shells derive from mid-18th century seats (R.L. Brohier, Furniture of the Dutch Period in Ceylon, 1993).
