LIMOGES ENAMELLED PLAQUES BY THE LAUDIN FAMILY (Lots 610-613) The Laudin dynasty of enammelers were active in Limoges during the 17th and 18th century. They had two workshops one in faubourg Manigne, the other in faubourg Boucherie. The extended family and their use of the monograms I.L. and N.L. make attributions to individuals complicated. The founder of the Laudin family was Noël (1586-1681), his three children Valerie (circa 1622-1680), Jacques I and Nicolas I (circa 1628-1698) were all active as enammelers. Jacques I, is best known for his Grisaille work, reminiscent of the best 16th century work from Limoges. His nephew Jacques II (1663-1729) also worked in grisaille but also made polychrome plaques with religeous subjects like his father Nicolas I.
