Lot Essay

A blue-overlay white glass bottle vase of similar small size and with a similar band decorating the neck in the Andrew K. F. Lee Collection is illustrated in Elegance and Radiance, Grandeur in Qing Glass, Hong Kong, 2000, p. 313, no. 118. Like the present lot, this vase is also incised with a Qianlong six-character mark in a line on the base, followed by the character chen. It is suggested, p. 312, that this refers to a serial number often seen on cloisonné enamel wares attributed to the Palace Workshops.
