The petal-lobed gilt-metal sides inlaid with eight langyao panels inscribed with poems, within champlevé enamel foliate scroll borders repeated on the spreading foot, the interior of the foot covered in turquoise enamel, with fitted pewter liner

This bowl may have been made as a jardinière for a jade and hardstone plant such as the pair sold in these rooms, 30 May 1991, lot 182, which were of hexagonal lobed form with similar champlevé enamel decoration and inscribed jade plaque inlays.
