Lot Essay
This simple, yet refined, bowl and dish represent two of the classic Jun shapes, which are more commonly found covered with a pale blue glaze. Similar dishes covered with a soft green glaze are illustrated by M. Sullivan, Chinese Ceramics, Bronzes and Jades in the Collection of Sir Alan and Lady Barlow, London, 1963, pl. 35a; and by A. du Boulay, Christie's Pictorial History of Chinese Ceramics, New Jersey, 1984, p. 86, fig. 1. Compare, also, the green-glazed Junyao dish of this shape from the Falk Collection sold in these rooms, 20 September 2001, lot 70.
