NYWinesChristie's are once again proud to kick off our fall 2003 season with the contents of another fantastic cellar.
This collection has been amassed over the last four decades and features many classics, both old and new. Now entering a more relaxed stage of his life the realization has come that it will be completely impossible to consume such quanties. So the decision has come to sell those wines he has in quantity - just a small portion of the cellar.
As you would expect from such a connoisseur, provenance and storage conditions are impeccable. Packing such a cellar was indeed a pleasure, a cold one, but extremely enjoyable. He gladly opened several bottles during our visit each one a shining example of its particular style.
A generous man with a true love of wine and a complete obsession for collecting, we thank him kindly. This is an incredible opportunity for all to acquire great wines in truly fantastic condition and definitely a cellar not to be missed.

Château Lafite has been at the forefront of Bordeaux wine production at the highest level for well over 250 years. There are five fantastic vintages offered here and don't forget to check out the large format section for the '61 and '70.
Château Lafite-Rothschild--Vintage 1976
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
All levels very top shoulder or better
The 1976 Lafite clearly stands far above the crowd in this vintage. A beautiful bouquet of seductive cedarwood, spices, and ripe fruit precedes a very concentrated, darkly colored wine, with great length and texture. Some amber is just beginning to appear at the edge. The 1976 has turned out to be the best Lafite of the '70s. It is gorgeous to drink at present. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005. Last tasted, 9/96.
