PHILIP TOGNI

A perennial underachiever at auction, Philip Togni is a 'Micro-Cult" wine, if I can give it such a name, rarely seen even in the primary retail market. From as little as 10 acres planted planted near his home up top Spring Mountain, Mr. Togni has been known to produce exacting and assertively stylish Cabernet Sauvignon. ST

"In 1993, the herbaceousness I noted appears to be translating into an attractive, cedary, spicy, cigar box character. Like all Togni Cabernets, the 1993 is an opaque purple with intense, jammy, blackcurrant, mineral, and vanillin scents. Extremely full-bodied, this is a wine with outstanding richness, an unctuous texture, and a huge, sweet, ripe finish. Although it is an exceptional example of Cabernet Sauvignon, it is sandwiched between the formidable 1992 and 1994." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, Issue 102, Dec 1995
